Israeli Society 101
Description: This walk introduces you to Israeli society, its complexities, and the major social issues that it faces today. It does this by exposing different characteristics of Israel's society and tying them to landmarks we see in the center of Tel Aviv. We will go into issues of religion, gender, ethnicity, economic inequality and economic development, housing, the military-civic axis, and political partisanship. At the end of this walk you will have a better understanding of forces that unite and divide Israeli society, and on how the oddities that you see in Israel came to be.

Protest and Change on the Streets of Tel Aviv
Description: Israel is a country with a deep history of mass social protest, as a means for provoking democratic change. As its economic and cultural capital, Tel Aviv is the protest center of virtually every social and political protest campaign that was undertaken in the last four decades. This walk will take you through the major locations of protest events the city center has to offer, in which some of the most defining campaigns were undertaken, since 1982 and up until today. We will dive into each of the major campaigns, its motivations, dynamics and results (both short and long term), and thus will learn about the social issues that were deemed vital enough to take to the street. Among the campaigns we will review are the 1982 protest against the Lebanon War, the 1995 protest against violence, the 2011 Tent Protest, and the 2018 protest against deportation of asylum seekers.

Israel's Transportation Gridlocks and Fixes
Description: From bicycles to planes, from sidewalks to heavy and light railway, Israel's transportation is rapidly changing in a desperate attempt to keep up with demand and need. The current situation is not merely a result of "bad planning", but of a set of circumstances, social, economic and political forces that are in play in the background. Both the problems and the fixes are not least evident throughout the city of Tel Aviv which attracts mass commuters day and night, and which is at the forefront of some of the solutions offered. This walk will take you through the different transportation issues, represented by different transportation sites, and will contribute to your understanding of how each of them came to be, and their social consequences. In a walk within a 2 mile (3 KM) area, which is rapidly developing, we will see up close examples of most of the problems and some of the solutions to Israel's transportation gridlocks.
